Lopetegui: Real Madrid players were tired

Real Madrid News

Real Madrid boss, Julen Lopetegui has admitted that his players were tired following his side's 1-0 victory over Espanyol on Saturday.

Spain international Marco Asensio scored the only goal of the game few minutes before the break to give the Bernabéu side a victory that sent them top of the league.

According to the manager, Real Madrid's performance on Saturday against Espanyol was not up to their level as he cited tiredness as the cause of this following their mid-week's Champions League win over Roma.

"They are three important points from a complex and difficult match," Lopetegui said, as reported by Marca.

"We lacked energy in the second half and lost control. There was fatigue because we played two demanding games in three days.

"Espanyol played well and were well organized, and we knew it would be difficult.

"We made the Asensio goal profitable."

Real lost several chances to increase their lead. Espanyol showed a great spirit to worsen matter for Los Blancos.

Writer's Opinion

It was a fight to finish for both sides, although Real Madrid had a lot of chances to kill the game, but none were close to do the job.

It was another impressive performance by Marco Asensio who has been in the limelight this season. He showed he could be star against a team he has previously played for.

I won't but mention the congested fixtures, but that can't be helped, maybe it's time Lopetegui start giving rotation of squad a serious thought. Real Madrid has the squad to carry out the duty.
