Controversies surrounding UEFA Best Player which was won by Real Madrid's Luka Modric linger on, as it was reported that Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo intentionally snub the event.

Cristiano Ronaldo won the the UEFA Forward of the Season, but subsequently listening the player of the season to his Real Madrid former teammate Luka Modric.

As reported by Tuttosport, the Juventus forward decided in the last minute to cancel his trip to Monte Carlo where the event was held, as he heard rumours that Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez was pressuring UEFA to give the ultimate award to Luka Modric.

While reacting to this, UEFA President Aleksander Caferin told La Gazetta dello Sport that:

"Why didn't Ronaldo come? Only Ronaldo knows, you should ask him. We expected him to come but then, a couple of hours before, Juve told us he wouldn't."

He continued, "I'll only say this: there was vote by 55 journalists and 80 coaches, so they decided the winner and therefore the result must be accepted.

"However, I don't know about Ronaldo and perhaps there were other reasons behind his absence. It's better to be optimistic."

Cristiano Ronaldo agent Jorge Mendes said the decision by UEFA and the jury was 'shameful' and 'ridiculous', further stating that "the winner is Ronaldo.

The Juventus star scored 15 goals to help Real Madrid win the UEFA Champions League last season, coupled with an acrobatic Goal of the Season.
